Neck Pain As the pivot of movement and flexibility, neck pain can leave a literal pain-in-the-neck feeling. Let us explore some home remedies for neck pain, the causes of which can be varied- ranging from bad postures to inflammatory conditions.

Neck pain home remedies – Home to natural healing

Neck pain, as mentioned, occurs when there is a strain in the neck muscles, which decreases the blood supply. Less of blood supply means less of oxygen, which in turn causes pain. Bad postures, obesity, arthritis, emotional or physical stress, medical conditions such as degenerative disc disease or any injury can manifest into a neck pain.

Home remedies for the condition can help reduce the use of over-the-counter medications (pain relievers).

Effective home remedies for neck pain

  • Ice packs can ease neck pain to a great extent. Keep ice packs on the region of pain for 10 minutes at a stretch, give a break for about 15 minutes and then place it once again. Beware of not giving your skin a frost bite because of prolonged exposure to ice.

  • If ice packs don’t work for you, try a heating pad. Heat can also radiate to the muscular region to give a soothing effect and help the muscles, and the nerves also to relax.

  • Massage with an oil or a lotion in slow circular motions on the painful area. Essential oils such as peppermint oil have anti-inflammatory properties. So a few drops of peppermint with coconut or sesame oil slightly warmed up can give  relief. This way, aromatherapies also work as good home remedies for neck pain.

  • Practice good ergonomics at office or at home. While working, keep your back upright and especially while working long hours ensure to nod left and right, up and down, every 20 minutes to prevent stiffness in the neck and neck pain.

  • Go for relaxation techniques, which can ease the strain on the neck region to a large extent.

  • Be watchful about the sleeping positions, the mattress in use and other cushion-factors which can help alleviate the stress in the neck and act as a good home remedy for neck pain.

Neck pain can also be caused due to slipped discs, arthritis (rheumatoid), disc hernia, and sorts. If the symptoms do not subdue with the home remedies, it is imperative to consult the physician.
