Hindu Goddess Lakshmi degraded in Burger King Ad

Burger King seems to have gotten into some divine trouble yet again! The last time their ads got them into trouble, it was for stereotyping Mexicans and misusing their flag as a cloak. This time its even worse. An ad that they introduced in Spain has used Lakshmi, Hindu God’s image! The insulting (and ironical) bit is that they have used the Hindu Goddess, Lakshmi’s image to sell Burger King Meat burgers!

Burger King ASD

As you can see the ad would definitely catch ones eye and it is no wonder that there was an immediate reaction from the nation’s Hindu community represented by the Hindu American Foundation. A demand for the recall of the ad and a public apology was proposed. Burger king removed the ads today as quickly as they could. But I wonder why they allowed such a concept in the first place? Its simply difficult to digest the ad and the fact that Burger King can make the same mistake twice. What can they gain with all this negative publicity? Guess its high time they changed their Ad Agency!

When I first read about this article, I was appalled. Its strange that Burger King was not smart enough to know religious sentiments would be hurt and then they come out and apologize by saying' we do not intend to hurt the religious sentiments of any community' HUH!
