Here Come The Delicious Desserts From The Stockholm Cafes

The fact that the Swedes do have a sweet tooth and enjoy their ‘firka’ or coffee break with a host of delicious desserts is surprising indeed. The image of the dour Swede picking at herrings, crisp breads and meatballs have remained ensconced in our minds for years now giving us very little opportunity to explore the wide variety of Stockholm’s delicious desserts. Here come the delicious desserts from the Stockholm Cafes proving us wrong and making us wish that we could have more of the same once again.

The capital of Sweden does have a few old and quaint looking pastry shops known as konditoriers, but most of them remain drab and bereft of variety selling the same old fare day after day. Thankfully there have been a spate of newer shops opening up of late and we can certainly hope to take our pick of the delicious desserts items that have been reinvented with a vengeance.

  • Cupcakes - Stockholm’s delicious desserts now include the cupcake which has been reinvented by Martin Johansson who runs the Cupcake Sthlm. While most of the delicious desserts in the form of cupcakes are American in origin, the red velvet which gets its color from the beets is strictly Nordic in taste.

  • Traditional Desserts - Per Olsson and his new shop Per Olsson Choklad & Konditor serves brownies and Tarte Tatin along with other varieties of Stockholm’s delicious desserts. New innovations in the form of a banana mousse flavored with rum and line and topped with a meringue is a strong favorite among the delicious desserts that are on offer.

  • Bulle - The spiced buns or Bulle occupy the pride of place at the delicious desserts section in the French styled café of Saturnus. The tiny sized buns have replaced by jumbo sized ones now. The cinnamon and cardamom flavored Bulle sprinkled with pearl sugar is the biggest draw here.

  • Princess Torte - Xoko,  the café is renowned for handling the annual buffet at the Nobel Prize event every year. The princess torte is one of the most delicious desserts that are served here with layers of raspberry cream and sponge cake covered with a green colored marzipan.

  • French-Swedish Desserts - The French pastry served according to the Swedish taste is the forte of Petit France which opened its doors in 2008. An increased amount of eggs and butter are used while baking the French buns while raspberries are used to enliven the delicious desserts all the year round.
