Kitchen science guru Harold McGee has teamed up with Google to make his classic On Food and Cooking more easily searchable using Google Books. McGee recommended using Google's search function to find references in the pages, and now, in response to a request from McGee, Google's engineers have made it so that your search results will even take you to the right page in the book.

It won't let you read all of the text - you'll need to buy a copy for that. But as a much more powerful replacement for the book's index, it's a great resource, and we like this idea of authors partnering with Google and web technology to create electronic indexes to their books.
