Goji Berries - Berries With A Significant Placebo Effect

Goji Berries are the berries from China, which are also renowned as berries with a significant placebo effect. It has been seen that people consuming more Goji berries have been identified with certain uniqueness. The berries with placebo effect, thus are gaining more popularity day by day.

 

Basically, Goji Berries are from the species Lycium Barbarum and they have almost all kind of food values similar to the recommended balanced diet like fruits and vegetables. However, the health benefits of Goji Berries will not be effective, in case you are not fed up with a balanced diet. According to the nutrition expert of University of Granada, there will be no positive effect of Goji Berries, for the people, who do not follow a balanced diet. However, the effect of Goji Berries on human body does not have any proper evidence to support this conclusion. Even you will find most of the components of Goji berries are present in other useful vegetables like potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, aubergines etc.

 

As per the explanation of Prof. Emilio Martínez de Victoria Munoz, at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of the University of Granada, the scientific studies on the health benefits of Goji Berries “were exclusively developed in vitro and in animals in China, but few have been conducted in humans out of China.” However, he concludes that “the effects are likely to be the same”.

 

Prof. Munoz also mentioned that “these berries cannot have any damaging or neutral effect on human health”, as they contain several useful nutrients like antioxidants, fiber, carbohydrates, proteins, zeaxanthin, lutein, complex polysaccharides and monosaccharides. All these nutrients have several beneficial effects on human body. However, people with allergic reaction should be cautious about consuming this fruit. Even patients taking anticoagulant drugs should also avoid this fruit, according to the professor. 

 

If you are interested to get these berries, be careful to check the food label, as events of adulteration have already been noticed in several places. You will not be able to enjoy the expected positive effects of Goji Berries, unless they are from the particular Lycium Barbarum or Lycium Chinense species, “which are the ones that contain the nutrients and healthy effects claimed”.
