You should encourage your child to eat healthy food from the very young days. There could be situations, when your child might refuse the offered food, but you should find out some fun ways to get your child eat healthier.

Being a mother of two, I can share my personal experience in this context. Somehow I am enough lucky that my children were never so picky about their food. This could be due to the fact that they were taught to love and honor their food and not to refuse. There were incidents, when they did not like something for the first time, but when I introduced some different recipe or presented in a different way, they found it quite tasty and delicious. So, if you really want to develop smart and healthy eating habit for your child, you have to continuously search for some new or fun means to get your child eat healthier. Here are some easy and innovative fun ways which can be quite effective to improve the eating habit of your child.
The picky eater

  • A lot depend on the way you are presenting the food to your child. Use plates and bowls in beautiful bright colors or with favorite cartoon prints of your child. These utensils will make the food look much interesting. You can also make out some story involving the cartoon characters and your child, while feeding her. Being engrossed in the story, she will not consider whatever she is eating.
  • One fun way, which I used for my children, was to divide the food in multiple parts and then ask them to eat one by one by counting the remaining food parts. Younger child may not be able to count, but this process could be also useful to teach her the basics of counting.
  • For toddler or kids, you can use another effective method of encouraging them to eat healthy food. In free time you can show them various videos or read books to them, explaining the purpose of healthy food. When your child learns that eating healthier will make her stronger and bigger, she will eat the food without any hesitation when served.
  • I have seen many mothers to switch on the favorite TV channel of their kid, before sitting for the meal. However, pediatricians do not prefer this method; instead you can read story books or can play some interactive games during the eating process. However, you should not indulge your child to roam around the house while having the meal. It will be much difficult to make her out of this habit, once she develops it.
  • If you find your child is not enjoying any particular recipe, you can try other variations. Use bright colored vegetables like carrots, spinach, beans, beet, bell peppers to make the preparation look gorgeous and delectable.
