Order the Turkey

A big and healthy turkey is must for the thanksgiving show. During this period of the year, most of the grocery stores offer turkeys at most reasonable prices. But that might not match with your requirement. Particularly, if you go for shopping in the eve of the Thanksgiving Day, then there is rare chance that you will get the right turkey according to your choice. So, it is better to order in advance from your nearby grocery store or the poultry farm. In fact, by ordering at a poultry farm, you can get a better breed of turkey, which will have less fat and tender meat.

Fix the Menu

But, turkey is not the only thing you are going to serve at your party. You have to decide on the other side dishes, starters, soups and desserts. There are so many options available in this regard that you need to give it a thought to finalize the menu for the big event. While working on the menu, try to include some traditional thanksgiving items with the contemporary choices. Many people prefer to eat traditional on this special day. When you finalize the menu, half of the preparation will be done. Now as per the menu, you can complete your rest part of grocery shopping.

Make the List of Guests

This is another important task, which has to be done by now. You have only couple of weeks left, by which you have to prepare the invitation and send them to the addressee. Nowadays, the best and fastest way to invite people is through e-mail. You can develop or generate invitation card in computer and e-mail them. If you are planning to have a pot-luck party, then this is the high time that you should plan about it. Have discussions with your guests and decide on, who is going to bring what. This way, you can have control on the food items and also, you can avoid duplicate food preparations.

Get the Cooking Tools

Over the weekend, take some time off and peep into your utensil cupboard. You need to bring out the bigger sized cooking utensils and additional tools from the cupboard or shelf for preparing big-sized dinner on the Thanksgiving Day.  So, get them out from your stock and have a thorough check-up, as some of them might require repairing or replacement.  In case, you want to add something new to your stock, then this is the right time to do so. You will find big sale offers for cooking utensils and other kitchen gadgets in every supermarket. Take this opportunity to develop or increase your collection of kitchen items.
