The festival enters its fifth year and just like every past edition, this year too is marked with contests, races, meals and live entertainment.
However, the main aim of the festival is way serious and significant than just eating for fun. The organizers of the festival insist that since Kentucky boasts of the largest inventory of beef cattle this side of the Mississipi, it is their duty to make the people aware of the journey of a beef cattle from the farm to the marketplace. During the two-day festival, the participating farmers, who make a living out of selling beef, will inform and educate people about the production, distribution and selling of beef. In this process, they would also be promoting the beef business.
The Fort Harrod Beef Festival offers everybody a chance to enjoy a weekend full of activities, where one after another event will teach you much more about this business as well as tinkle your taste buds with some of the delicious recipes.
From “cattle crawl” activity for children, there are beef grill-offs, steak and egg breakfast, wine and cheese tasting, arts and crafts vendors, amateur photo contest, car show, bull riding, pageants and a 5 km race.
The Fort Harrod Beef Festival has been awarded the first place for being the “Most Innovative or New Activity” award in 2007 by the Kentucky Festival and Events Association. Besides, in 2009, the Carnival Corral, organized for kid visitors to the fest, was chosen for the “County Activities of Excellence Award” by the Kentucky Farm Bureau.
