Fighting Stomach Ulcers with Yogurt

Finally, there is now a drug free and delicious treat to ‘treat’ stomach ulcer! What is it…? It is yogurt!

25 million people in the US alone are affected by stomach ulcers and research has shown that such ulcers are caused mainly by a type of bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) or over-use of aspirin and or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

A special type of yogurt containing pro-biotics and antibodies that is already on the shelves in Taiwan, Korea and Japan is on its way to the US once the medical studies are complete. The yogurt contains antibodies that suppress the activity of the ulcer causing bacteria (H. pylori), thus lowering the risk of getting an ulcer significantly.

You may wonder why use the yogurt when medications are available for stomach ulcers. Well, for one thing, it is cheaper and medications cannot be regularly afforded by many people. It is also a sweet and tasty treat that helps prevent and cures stomach ulcers as well as providing nutrition… who wouldn’t want it??!

So far 42 medical volunteers who tested positive for H. pylori have exhibited reduced bacterial activity after consuming two cups daily of either plain yogurt or yogurt containing the antibody for four weeks.

So all of you out there who love these chilled treats, cross your fingers! The new yogurt may be on the shelves soon.

The yogurt is definitely a good cure to popping pills. This is a sweet cure minus all the side effects of regular medicines. A welcome treatment definitely.

It is very true! Yogurt is long identified as an effective remedy for most of the stomach problems and digestive issues that we come across on a daily basis. Also, during the summer season, it is a very good habit to include a glassfull of chilled yogurt in your diet to help ward off many such digestive problems that may pop up owing to excessice heat! :)
