Ethiopian Coffee– What is so special?

A few weeks ago, I walked into my friend’s kitchen and got lost in the fruity and strong fragrance of roasted Ethiopian Coffee beans. To this day, that aroma hasn’t stopped haunting me. The indigenous coffee beans from Ethiopia have something about it that makes it special.

Among the myriad varieties available, the Harar coffee beans from Ethiopia have quiet a fan following because of its unique and distinctive wine-like flavor and strong acidic edge. The popularity of Sidamo's beans, also known as Yirgacheffes, can also be attributed to its extraordinary flavor.

For the people of Ethiopia, coffee is an important part of their culture. According to their folklore, Ethiopia is the birth place of coffee. If you are ever invited for coffee to an Ethiopia, friends house, remember that it will be rude to retire before drinking at least three rounds of coffee. If you complete the three rounds, called 'Abol' , 'Tona' and 'Baraka'  you are believed to be blessed. This is a traditional coffee ceremony that has been practiced for years.

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind three rounds of this super delicious coffee.
