France beat the U.S. and U.K. in awards for the world's best restaurants, taking 12 of the top 50 places. Ferran Adria's El Bulli, in northern Spain, led the list, followed by the Fat Duck, near London, and Pierre Gagnaire, Paris.

Eight of the S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants were in the U.S. and the U.K. had seven. Italy and Spain had six each. By city, Paris had the largest number with nine, followed by London with six and New York with four. El Bulli also won last year.
