Eat Red Meat To Improve Memory
Red meat is not always bad for health – in fact, those who follow Atkins diet have a good
reason to have red meat. They eat red meat to improve memory – it is believed that red meat is loaded with intelligence and memory boosting substance which makes it important to have red meat quite frequently.
If you love red meat but restrict yourself due to so much negative talk about it, then this news is surely going to interest you. After the recent revelations by scientists, it can be said that memory improving red meat can surely be had in moderation and as believed it shouldn’t be completely scrapped from our regular diets. Scientists believe that ‘creatine’ which is present in red meat can actually help to improve your memory and increase your general intelligence levels. To prove all such claims Researchers in Australia carried out an experiment on 45 volunteers and fed them with a ‘creatine supplement for nearly 6 weeks while the other group was given placebo. After 2 weeks both the groups were taken off these pills. The supplements were then swapped but the volunteers were not aware of the supplement which they were given. This experiment was carried out by Caroline Rae of the University of Sydney in Australia.
After 6 weeks Dr. Rae was quoted as: "The results were clear with both our experimental groups and in both test scenarios. Creatine supplementation gave a significant and measurable boost to brain power." It was revealed that volunteers, who took 5gm of creatine in a day, were certainly better in remembering things like telephone numbers and some other details. This study was published in a journal - Proceedings of the Royal Society Series B: Biological Sciences which supported several earlier researches which revealed that creatine in the diet did help in boosting memory cells – improving the levels of memory.
Dr Rae also says: "Creatine probably works by increasing the energy supply that the brain has ... [it] ... basically increases your thinking capacity." She added: "I think the only people that wouldn't benefit [from taking creatine supplements] are people who already eat a lot of meat, for example, 2 kilograms a day, like some body-builders." Dr. Rae at the same time warns that have too much of creatine for prolong periods can be harmful for the body as it can lead to problems of diabetes and kidneys. It can even lead to flatulence and even bad breath.
Dr. Rae concludes by saying "To be frank, taking the supplement can make you a considerably less fragrant person," However, creatine supplementation may be of use to those requiring boosted mental performance in the short term - for example, university students."
