The Dukan Diet is a very popular diet in Europe and is fast catching up to newer areas. Dr. Pierre Dukan gave the Dr. Dukan diet after his long practice as a French Nutritionist. The basic focus of the Dr. Dukan diet is to increase the Protein Intake. In this Dr. Dukan Diet review, we will discuss how exactly the Dr. Dukan Diet works.
They mainstay of this diet is to near eliminate all fat and carbohydrate from your diet. People have often compared this diet to the Atkins diet. It has it’s similarities but it isn’t that fatal…if I may use that term. The main aim is to put the body in the state of Ketosis. In this state, the body tends to begin attacking the fat reserves, to make up for lack of energy.
The Dr. Dukan diet works in four systematic cycles:
First Cycle- Attack. Here you consume proteins like lean veal, Chicken, Turkey and Egg. Only fat free dairy products are allowed. Water has to be consumed in large quantities. This phase has to be continues for a maximum of 10 days.
Second Cycle- Cruise. Now, 5 day cycles of eating protein and veggies is to be undertaken alternately. First five days eat proteins alone with lots of water. Next five days eat vegetables, boiled or mashed but with no butter or oil. Follow the Cruise stage of the Dr. Dukan Diet till your goal weight is attained.
Third Cycle- Consolidation. Once you are 10 pounds short of your desired weight, begin with cycle. Have fruits with 2 slices of whole wheat bread slices. You can also have 1.5 ounces of Cheese with a cheat meal twice a week of Desserts or wine. Starch is allowed to a maximum of twice a week.
Fourth Cycle- Stabilization- Now that you have reached your desired weight level, come down to your normal eating pattern albeit intelligently, but continue to devote one day a week to protein consumption also.
This diet is a little hard to follow, but the biggest negative that this Dr. Dukan Diet review will show you is that due to proper dietary intake, this diet can lead to Hair loss, Brittle nails and bad skin also.
Since, this is a hard one to follow, if you stop, there are very strong chances that you will re-gain weight and such a yo-yo diet is not healthy. Phew! I know it may seem so complicated, but the results have been astonishing! Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez have said to be avid followers of the Dr. Dukan Diet.
