Don’t Let the Computer Hurt You
Over the past few years, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of people using computers, and that too for long hours. This has resulted in a substantial increase in computer-related health problems like neck strains, carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, headache, and blurred vision.

I am also a victim of this computer-related health problem. I am sure many of you are also suffering from a few of these symptoms. Don’t avoid this and be alert from today itself. Here are a few tips to reduce these problems:
• Use a chair with a full backrest. Adjust the chair height so that your thighs are horizontal, feet are flat on the floor, and the backs of knees are slightly higher than the seat of the chair.
• The top of the screen should be at, or slightly below your eye level. The screen should be 18 to 28 inches away from the eyes.
• Move the fingers up and down while typing. Don’t rest the wrists and move the fingers sideways to type.
• Reduce the glare and reflections of the screen by regularly cleaning the screen and blocking out excessive sunlight.
• Gently massage your eyes, cheeks, and forehead from time to time. Roll your up, then look down, blink and then close them. Repeat this a few times. Take breaks from work and look away from your monitor frequently.
• Keep changing your posture every 20 – 30 minutes.
• Exercise at frequent intervals while working on the computer. Rotate your wrist in circles and then give it a massage. Stand and stretch your palms overhead, hold for a few seconds and then relax. Repeat.
But, if you don’t feel relieved from all these preventive measure, never delay to visit your doctor. Delay can worsen your condition.
