Dieting May Tempt You To Eat Junk Food
Dieting may tempt you to eat junk food - This is not much of good news for dieters who starve but finally unable to stave off the calories.
The concept of dieting is now growing roots in myths and misconceptions as dieters are resorting to fast-track weight-loss programs under the impression that losing weight will add tons of well-being to the body. What is missed here is that starvation is no answer for quick weight-loss. On the other hand, starvation only accumulates more calories, when the body resorts to a refill of energy-sources, which means dieting, may only end you up gaining more weight.
Why it is that dieting may tempt you to eat junk food?
Research shows that rapid weight loss programs (with crash-dieting techniques) alters the way the brain responds to stress. When dieters are subjected to stress post their dieting regimen, they tend to resort to eating fatty foods, which only add to more weight.
The Research by the University of Pennsylvania on dieting and its effects on junk food was studied on a group of mice whose food-portion was cut by a quarter. The mice ended up losing 15 percent of their weight. This result has been recorded in the Journal of Neurosciences.
The same mice, post the weight-loss regimen, were put on a normal diet to restore their original weight. These ex-dieters ate equal quantum of food like their non-dieting counterparts, under normal situations. But when exposed to stress such as a loud noise the ex-dieters ate ravenously, that too fatty food. The research’s onus was to establish a link between the brain, appetite and dieting effects.
According to the Daily Mail, dieting increases the level of stress and appetite hormones, which end up altering the make-up of stress-related genes as well. Which means dieting not only tempts you to eat more junk food but also alters the way the brain responds to stress.
A stressful dieting regimen cannot yield fruitful results as you would be extracting more energy from foods (especially the junk food) to appease your stress-levels and satiate your appetite, forming a vicious circle – you starve to lose-weight but the brain compels you to eat more for the stress you undergo.
So, while its good to go on a healthy, balanced diet, with the right proportion of nutrients , its not wise to go on crash-diets to frame your body proportionately, as dieting may tempt you to eat junk food.
