Healthy Diet
Lean Protein for a Healthy Heart:
Protein is an important constituent of our diet. It is also known as the building blocks of our body. It also makes us feel satiated and reduce the urge of nibbling. The healthy protein sources can be lean cuts of meat; such as skinless chicken breasts; fish, especially fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and herring; low-fat dairy products; eggs; nuts; nut butters; beans; lentils; and tofu. But, you should also be careful about the amount. Sometimes, proteins are high in calories, so don’t eat too much.

Low Fat for a Healthy Heart:
Saturated fats and trans fats are a strict no-no to a healthy heart. Instead of that, we should look for monounsaturated and poly unsaturated fats that can increase our good HDL cholesterol level and lower bad LDL cholesterol level. To get monounsaturated and poly unsaturated fats in our diet, we should go toward lean cuts of red meat (look for words like round, loin, sirloin, or 90 percent lean), low-fat cheeses, and low-fat or skim milk, peanut butter, fatty fish, vegetable oils like olive, canola, and peanut; avocados; nuts; and seeds. At the same time, for a healthy heart we have to avoid fried foods; processed baked goods like cookies, pie crusts, and pastries; and stick margarines and shortenings.

Practice Portion Control for a Healthy Heart:
Weight gain is a major problem for a heart problem. High weight causes a lot of problems other than heart disease such as diabetes, depression, etc. To avoid this situation, we have to eat less, use smaller bowls and plates. Also we have to include a lot of veggies in our diet. There must be a balance between protein and starches like brown rice or whole-wheat pasta.
