The right diet and foods for runners is a must. They are not just important for maintaining good health, but over all performance and that too in the highest level. Top sport stars have their won health experts and dieticians; however, to be at peak performance level runners need to follow a diet that is both healthy and performance enhancing. Some of the best foods to help runners maintain health and perform are discussed below:

a) Pasta and Bread


Whole grain pasta and bead are important for runners because they need a lot of carbohydrates to fuel workouts. Whole grain foods are the ideal choices as they are less processed and the natural nutrition and more fiber are maintained. However, runners need to avoid white bread and baked products made with flour.


b) Eggs


Runners need a lot of proteins and eggs can provide that. Eggs can also help in muscle repair and provide the necessary amino acids. Bones will be stronger with the consumption of eggs that are boiled, poached or scrambled. 


c) Beans


Beans are rich in protein, fiber, and iron. As they are low in fats they can be a great accompaniment to soups and stews. Lots of runners prefer to consume beans with rice.


d) Salmon


Everyone knows that salmon is an excellent protein source. Brain development can be enhanced though the consumption of Salmon as it is a major source of omega-3 fats. Apart from preventing heart disease and high blood pressure salmon contains vitamins A, B and D and various minerals necessary for a healthy diet. Athletes can enjoy them with salads or sandwiches that are baked or grilled.


e) Bananas


Bananas are great for runners as they are good sources of carbs and potassium. Athletes should consume bananas as snacks, part of a meal, or just add them to cereals or make a smoothie. 


The list of ideal foods for runners is long, but it also depends on a runner’s personal taste and preferences. The bottom line is that runners need the most nutritious food to be fit to perform at top gear.
