Margarine, when introduced in the late 1800's, was banned in the US as a harmful drug and its sale restricted. Later, it was heavily taxed and stores needed a license to sell it!
An estimated 13 million Americans consider themselves vegetarians, but only 1,750,000 actually don't eat any meat, fowl or fish.
