You can choose from myriad of delicious delicacies that are prepared and enjoyed throughout Kerala. Another great thing is that Keralites can churn great food with any given ingredient. Here are some utterly delicious delicacies from Kerala

 

Puttu: Puttu or steam cake is normally served for the breakfast. It is prepared by steaming ground rice and coconuts. The ground rice is layered with grated coconut and the vice versa. The puttu is served with banana, pappadam or kadala curry (a type of curry prepared from garbanzo beans.
 

Idiyappam: This is one of the variant delicacies from Kerala which reminds you of the noodles. It is locally known as noolputtu or noolappam. The nool refers to string in chaste Malayalam. But the idiyappam is commonly known as string hoppers. The idiappam is made by combining rice, flour, salt and water. It is either served with sweetened coconut milk or kadala curry.

 

Palappam : This is a traditional bread, which is prepared with rice dough. This delicacy from Kerala has attained global popularity because the migrant malayalees can hardly take its taste out of their minds. The yeast or other agents are used for raising the rice flour. Palappam can be served with any spicy curry.

 

Sambar: This is a popular delicacy from Kerala and it can be teamed with idlis during the breakfast or they can be teamed with rice during the main course meal. It is basically a vegetable stew which is prepared from a broth made of toor dal and tamarind pulp. The spice mix moreover remains the same but in some areas the people opt for coconut paste- spice mix whereas in some other areas the coconut is not at all used.

 

Aviyal: Aviyal is one of the really winning delicious delicacies from Kerala. It is prepared by mixing various vegetables with coconut paste , and curd and seasoned with mustard seeds. It is normally served during the main meal.

 

Kaalan: Kaalan is prepared in the similar fashion as the aviyal but the only difference is that it uses fewer vegetables than aviyal. It is more sour and thicker than the aviyal.

 

Thoran: Thoran is the delicious delicacy from Kerala and is an integral part of any celebration. It is prepared by mixing vegetables with coconut paste. Any type of vegetable can be used in the preparation of thoran.

 

Payasam: Payasam is a dessert which is served during all auspicious occasions. Normally rice, sugar, and milk is used in the preparation of the payasam other than that grains like wheat, lentils, vegetables and fruits are also used in the preparation of payasam. Mostly sugar and jaggery are used as the sweetening agents.
