Delhi Food Festival
The idea of an upcoming Delhi food festival does not raise any eyebrows at all any more. That is because the Indian capital has, over the years, come to be known for its rich cuisine and you are likely to come across every form of gastronomic delight once you traverse its streets. The assimilation of the old and modern has also made it a venue that delights in partaking fusion food and the numerous International events held here leave you with no doubt that food is the fastest selling item across the city.
In keeping with that spirit, the “Indian Food and Wine Show” was held in Delhi in 2009 which turned out to be a gastronomic event per excellence. The local crowd came in hordes and stood around marveling at the quaint food stalls that held everything from the inexpensive street food to the gourmet meal that could well set back an average Indian by a few thousand rupees.
Participation
The International participation was at an all time high with nations as diverse as Australia, Spain, Italy, France, and South Africa sending representatives. The host India was, of course, in full swing showcasing the food that has now gained appreciation worldwide.
Sub Events
It was the wine and beverages that stole the show, however. Storing wines, sniffing at them and rolling them around your tongue before you finally get to swallow them was a lesson well learnt by the Indian wine lovers who strove to catch a glimpse of every event, no matter how time consuming it was. The Sommelier training by the Spanish team proved to be a hit too as were the cooking skills of the Italian chefs who managed to toss a few basic ingredients nonchalantly into the skillet and come up with the most delightful pasta that the visitors had ever tasted. The live cookery show attracted a lot of participants as well as goggle eyed bystanders and the avocado oil introduced for the very first time in India piqued the interest quotient up another notch.
The press were out in full force, with one of the daily newspapers even calling the event as the “mother of all food shows”.
