Darden Joins Hands With Michelle Obama - To Sell Healthier Options On Menu
The Let’s Move! Campaign, the brainchild et’s Move initiative, here is some good news. The restaurants will not be revamping their menus completely. For example, the French fries and soda will stay on the menu but the kids’ meals will come with more healthy options. Bob McAdam, Senior vice president, Government & Commued Michelle Obama’s health initiative and promised to reduce calories and sodium content of its food. In addition to this, the restaurants will also offer healthier choices on its children’s menus.
In a recent announcement, First Lady Michelle Obama told the press, “This is not about telling people what to do. It’s about parents taking responsibility for what their kids eat, and it’s about companies like Darden helping parents meet that responsibility by providing healthy options. Folks will still have plenty of wonderful splurging options.”
She further stated, "I believe that the changes that Darden will make could impact the health and well-being of an entire generation of young people.” The Darden company owns almost 1900 restaurants, which includes brands like Olive Garden, The Capital Grille, Longhorn Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 53, etc and these Darden restaurants are known to serve more than 400 million meals a year.
Mrs. Obama’s announcement seems to have touched the right chord with the public, which often wonders that whether joining hands with a health initiative like this would mean that they will not be able to order their usual fare at their favorite restaurants.
For those, who doubt the outcome of such collaboration between the Olive Garden, Red Lobster restaurants and the Litems that we know people love, so there are favorites on every one of our menus. And we expect to continue to offer them.”
