Cuisine is a common English word Cuisine derived from French. Cuisine, "cooking; culinary art; kitchen"; ultimately from Latin coquere, "to cook") is a specific set of cooking traditions and practices, often associated with a specific culture. Cuisine also often refers to religious food laws such as halal, kosher, vegan, vegetarian, Jain and so on. A cuisine is primarily influenced by the ingredients that are available locally or through trade. For example, the Straits Chinese who settled in Malaysia and Singapore regions took local ingredients and used their recipes from North China thus was born Nonya style cooking, or Chinese in India resulted in Desi Chinese-ndian (my favourite Chinese cooking in the wold), and again Indians living in Fiji, Africa, and the Caribbean have their own style of cuisine and they in turn have had great influence on the local cuisines. It is a facinating subject indeed.
