Chocolate and Acne
A myth has been doing rounds for quite long now, that eating chocolate causes acne. This myth has kept many a chocolate lovers away from their favorite goodie. However, we are here to break that myth and dispel all the notions that are being carted around chocolate and acne being correlated. Contrary to popular belief, dark chocolate contains anti-oxidants which actually aid in better skin complexion. The University of Pennsylvania and the US Naval Academy conducted experiments that fed subjects chocolate or a bar with similar amounts of macronutrients (fat, sugar etc.) and found that consumption of chocolate, frequent or not, had no effect on the developing of acne.
Refer to what the "Acne Resource Center" has to say about chocolate and acne. "The fact that consuming chocolate causes acne is a myth that has been around for years. Doctors and scientists after considerable research have refuted the old myth that chocolate causes acne. Why is that? A chocolate candy bar is innocent, but is blamed regularly. Other foods that are blamed include pizza, potato chips and dairy products. No foods have been proven to cause acne. If a person maintains a healthy diet and consumes healthy vegetables and fruits, acne can be prevented. Overactive oil glands, heredity, dead skin cells that lodge in skin pores, and hormonal changes are what cause acne. Rest assured though, it can be completely treated!" Some experts do claim that milk chocolates may after all be the cause of acne or skin problems among people. But these claims are not supported by enough evidence. Till that happens, you may do better to go for the dark variety, not the milk chocolate.
