Lips are one of the most sensitive parts of our body and hence care for lips becomes imperative. Lips define your smile and give your face a special character. Lips do not contain melanin pigment and thus do not enjoy the protection that this pigment offers. It is necessary to take good care of lips to keep them from getting discolored, cracked, or dry. - Keep lips moist and do not let them dry out. Use a good quality lip balm or cream to keep them soft and supple even during the cold months when they tend to get dry.
- Avoid using lipsticks of poor quality since the chemicals in them can cause lips to become dark in color. Moreover, it is advisable to limit its use to special functions. Give lips a natural look by just glossing them.
- Smoking is another factor that can cause darkening of lips. Try to quit the habit for pink and healthy lips.
- Always apply a lip foundation prior to using any make up on lips and do not forget to wash away the same at bedtime. Sleeping with made up lips can cause lips to become dry or chapped.
- Enjoy the beauty of luscious, soft, lips by applying a mixture of almond oil and coconut oil on lips and leaving it on for 2 to 3 hours prior to washing.
- Lips tend to get dry, during very hot weather or during the cold months. This happens because lips do not have their own oil producing glands unlike the skin. Applying a good moisturizing cream can protect lips from drying out.
- Vitamin B deficiency can cause the corners of the lips to crack and at times, this can be painful too. Take vitamin B supplements and apply coco butter on the cracked areas for relief.
- Do not forget to use sunscreen lotion on your lips during the summer months, since without the protection of melanin, skin on the lips is more vulnerable to UV rays and other harmful rays of the sun.
- Exfoliating lips occasionally, helps get rid of dry and dead skin. Use a facial scrub for the same.
- Healthy diet is very important for beautiful lips. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and drink lots of water to keep lips hydrated and soft.
