Can Grapefruit lead to Weight Loss?

What if grapefruits can actually stop you from putting on weight irrespective of the number of calories you have taken in? Yes, recent studies reveal that concentrated bodily presence of a particular molecule found in grapefruit can not only fight weight gain but also reduce your cholesterol and triglyceride levels! This also means reduced susceptibility to cardiovascular diseases and diabetics.

 


 

Grapefruit and weight loss

 

 

 

Did I just hear a “hurray”! Before you start off on a grapefruit diet you might need to know just a little bit more. The wonder molecule in grape fruits that might help in weight loss is Narengenin, a flavonoid which when present in a concentrated form can compel your liver to burn heavy and rich food faster and effectively. A concentrated form of this molecule found naturally in grapefruit was used in mice that were fed on a diet rich in lard and sugar laden fruits. Yet, the fat build up was lesser by an actual 80 percent!!

 

The flavonoid in grapefruits reprograms the liver such that the genes that store fat is deactivated and the ones that turn on the enzymes to increase the burning of fat and fat utilization is on an overdrive! For the mice, the fat was burned to produce more energy but at the same time normal activity levels were regained! Thus the weight loss!

 

The functional word here is “concentrated”. To get the required amount of  Narengenin one would have to drink 6 to eight glasses of grapefruit juice in a day!! It is not that we dont have enough grapefruit recipes but it would be quiet an extensive grapefruit diet!! So the next attempt is to isolate and reduce the miracle molecule for weight loss into a pill.

 

As the molecule is derived from grapefruit, there will be no worries about the use of artificial and synthetic material in the pill. Also, no side effects have been noticed yet, so I guess it will be safe for us. Imagine, once the Grapefruit pill comes out, you can have bowls of French fries and  scores of burgers and simply pop in a pill to make sure that the calories you just consumed don’t become fat!! I have always been against weight loss supplements but with this pill I am not so sure, what do you guys think? It does seem like it maybe a natural and safe way to help weight loss and more importantly to keep the weight at bay!
