In reality the foods that may hurt one mother may not hurt the other. But still there are quite few of them which may hurt all mothers uniquely.
Some of the breastfeeding foods to avoid are as follows:
Caffeine : Many nursing mothers are unaware of the fact that overconsumption of caffeine can harm their baby at large. The limited intake of caffeine is good for the body as the stimulant but over consumption may hamper the sleep patterns of the baby and also make them fussy. The same goes for tea, soft drinks or the medicines containing stimulants such as coffee or some other flavors. So, nursing mothers should always try to go slow about these foods or rather apt to say power drinks.
Alcohol: Lot has been said about the harm alcohol causes to the body even if you are pregnant or not. One of the reasons for including alcohol in the list of breastfeeding foods to avoid was that it is not good for any nursing mother. The alcohol fastly assimilates with our blood stream and also seeps into the milk and start doing more harm to baby than the mother. So, it is recommended that all nursing mothers should keep alcohol first on the list of foods to avoid for breastfeeding.
Allergens : If the mothers have history of allergic reactions to certain foods then they should be very careful of those foods. It has been found that most of the people across world are allergic to foods like wheat, shellfish, soy, shellfish, citrus fruit, nuts, milk, nuts and food additives. Even if the mothers are not allergic to these foods still they should closely watch that during the gestation period if any of these foods are developing any allergic reactions like vomiting sensations, diarrhea, congestion, skin rashes, etc.
Chocolates : Chocolates also feature on the list of breastfeeding foods to avoid. The over usage of chocolates may induce mood swings in the mothers and also they aggravate the symptoms of post partum depression which may not be good for the baby and mothers uniquely.
Spices : Some spices like garlic, pepper, cinnamon , etc should be avoided during the gestation period because they are laced with stimulants that may easily enter into the blood stream and ultimately get assimilated with the breast milk. And enter the blood stream of the body. The spices with stimulants may even cause allergic reactions within baby’s body.
It is good for all nursing mothers to develop their own list of breastfeeding foods to avoid because the one thing that may work for one may not work for other mother. Still some of the general things work for all mothers uniquely.
