Fruits; as the cornucopia of health and goodness, and fighters against deadly diseases such as cancer, are the best natural medicine. For instance,  the ‘berry in the belly’ does tons of good in preventing cancer. Yes, black raspberries offer hope for bowel cancer. Let’s see how.

Black raspberries as a powerhouse of antioxidants show incredible ability to reduce the incidence of cancer. Previous scientific studies have test-proven these fruits’ anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-neurodegenerative and anti-inflammatory properties.
And recent research conducted by scientists has revealed that black raspberries are capable of reducing the incidence of tumors in the colorectal region at least by 45 %. Which means to say that the claim black raspberries offer hope against bowel cancer, is no tall talk but a proof of clinical research.
The study was carried out by UIC's department of pathology and the National Cancer Institute on two strains of mice, which showed a high risk potential of colorectal cancer either because of colitis (inflammation of the colon) or due to genetic definition.
One strain of mice were fed on a western diet with high fat content, low calcium, and low vitamin D and the other strain of mice was fed with a normal diet or the above spelt western diet but supplemented with 10 percent frozen raspberry powder.
After a duration of 12 weeks, the study observed that the mice whose diet was supplemented with black raspberry powder showed a 45% drop in tumor formation in colon, rectum and the intestines. In the strain of mice with the cancer gene, tumor occurrence also dropped by 60%.
The study proved that black raspberries were effective against preventing cancer. The fruit’s inherent property to control chronic inflammation as in colitis prevents the cancerous manifestation.  Black raspberries suppressed the activity of the protein called beta catenin which is linked to the cancer-causing gene(APC gene). Additionally black raspberry’s anti-inflammatory property can also be tapped to cure many heart-related ailments. The onus is now on squeezing out the best of medicine, health and disease-combatant in the fruit.

The news about black raspberries offering hope for bowel cancer is making waves not without reason, because scientific reasoning and subsequent research has yet again opened an avenue where nature, medicine and man meet to bring out the bloom of health, naturally!
