‘Black’ Is The New ‘Green’ For ‘Superfood’ Buffs
You must have heard a lot of times how green is good for you, whether it is in the veggies, environment, or the color of your dress. But this New Year comes to you with some ‘black’ news! No cause for alarm though! Apparently, black is the new green as far as the superfoods are concerned.
While greens are lauded for their plant pigment content, which is believed to lower the risks of diabetes, heart trouble, and cancer, it has come to knowledge that the black foods contain more antioxidants, simply because of their high pigment content. Though, you may have to go the extra mile to get these ‘blackies’, the effort will be worth it, when you finish reading this blog:
1) Black Rice
You have been told that brown rice is good to eat but let it be known that black rice is even better. The bran hull of the black rice is rich in Vitamin E and, therefore, is good for your immunity. This vitamin is also instrumental in protecting you from free radical damage. Moreover, the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center claims that black rice is full of anthocyanin antioxidants, which is an added benefit. For more on this, read the benefits of black rice .
2) Black Lentils
Black legumes are full of iron, which is good, especially in case of women, as just one cup of these lentils will supply you with about 8 milligrams of iron, almost half of your daily requirement of 18 milligrams. The soluble fiber is also present in high quantity, which not only helps you lower your cholesterol but also supplements your immunity.
3) Blackberries
Dark berries are rich in polyphenols, which, simply put, keep you active in old age. The polyphenols clean up cells that hamper brain function, thus, helping you reduce cognitive decline that comes with the old age.
4) Black Beans
The bioflavonoid packed inside the dark skins of these beans is a potent nutrient that gives you protection against cancer. This revelation was made in a Cornell University research.
5) Black Soybeans
Who knew that eating black soybeans could help you reduce the risk of thrombosis, which may prove fatal to you? No yellow or green soybeans, just black ones this year for you.
6) Black Tea
No more black coffee, it is black tea from now on if you want to enjoy the benefits of theaflavins, a type of antioxidants that may help you recover from soreness of muscles after an intense workout. A study conducted at the Rutgers University, New Jersey, also suggests that drinking black tea may help you avoid the risk of having a heart attack.
Now that you are ready to ring in the New Year with your friends and family, along with that little black dress that you ordered for the New Year bash, don’t forget to order some black food too. Have a healthy New Year with the black!
