Biriyani - delicious Sunday lunch

The biriyani is my favorite dish. If you would give me a chance to choose what I would like to eat for Sunday lunch then 9 out of 10 times it is going to be “Chicken Biriyani”. I love the flavors that make this rice and chicken dish so very special. Chicken cooked in the exotic Indian spices and all the onion, garlic, mint and coriander combined with flavored rice (rice cooked with whole spices) makes it truly a royal treat.

This Sunday I made this chicken Biriyani for lunch and enjoyed every bit of it. Thought I should share it with you all on this wonderful foodie platform - ifood. I combined the chicken biriyani with an onion, tomato and cucumber raita and yes, lime pickle and spicy garlic pappad. Oh! it was truly a heavenly meal that still makes my mouth water.
The biriyani is a popular dish in the South Asian region. It symbolizes the rich Moghul culture. Rice, meat/vegetables cooked in a number of exotic spices was a dish savored by royalty. The vegetarian version of the biriyani is referred to as “Taheri” and is very popular here in India.

When we think of Biriyani in India it is the Hyderabadi Biriyani that comes to mind first. The Nizam had a variety of over 49 biriyanis that were cooked in the royal kitchen. For a hard core biriyani fan like me , it is a real treat. The Paradise restaurant in Secunderabad is a popular joint for Hyderabadi biriyani. Even with me being such an ardent biriyani fan, a plate of special hyderabadi biriyani was one that my husband and I together could not finish.
A little effort is all you need to make this exotic and lip smacking meal. Enjoy a great afternoon Sunday meal with biriyani, raita , pappad and pickle.

Interesting info about the nizam having over 49 varieties of biryani! Also, I didn't know that the veg version was called 'Taheri'. I tried Chicken Biryani at 'Koyla' restaurant in Hyderabad. It was the best I've had. I tried the same at their outlet in Mumbai but unfortunately, didn't find it too exciting.

Biryani pictures are mouthwatering. It is a great dish from traditional mughlai Cuisine. With Mirchi Ka Salan It has great taste. Biryani is also very much popular in Lucknow(U.P.) but Hyderabadi Biryani is great. Thanks for sharing this nice blog.

Hyderabadi Biryani at the 'Paradise' in Secunderabad is the best I have had. God alone knows how many times I would have savoured its exotic taste while in Hyderabad. Also it still continues to be on top of my list when I visit Hyd again.
