WIMPYS - The Best Burger Joint In New York

America is the Land of Burgers. You have MacDonalds. You have Wendys. You have and the local mom and pop burger shops or the great american diners. But you dont always get a great burger you want when you want it. Especially when you happen to work and live (as me and my buddy do) near 168th street and broadway, New York (in the heart of washington heights) Every night (or at lunch time), for the last 4 years its been either subway, a local chinese place, MacDonalds, Wendys and the once in a while an indian restaurant. You get it - the same stuff but NO great burgers. And as life always has it, sometimes what you are craving for is not THERE, OUT IN THE WORLD, but in your backyard. And so was WIMPYS - just two blocks aways, and i only just got to know of it. Well all i can say the wait was well worth it. Wimpys on 170th St and Nicholas Avenue is got to be the best burger place in a loooooonggg time. OK FOLKS - THIS IS NOT THE WIMPYS BURGER CHAIN PLACE - this is a small independent shop ( i dont like any of these chain burger stores anyways). Now, going back to what i was saying, I rarely eat beef burgers ( prefer chicken burgers) but i got a whiff and a taste of the big, juicy and fresh WIMPYS burger through a colleague of mine a few days ago.

It was the most tender, juicy, beef burger i had bitten into. I knew i was hooked So in the last one week, i have eaten dinner 3 nights at WIMPYS!! The first nite it was their big Cheeseburger Platter - a big juicy beef burger, topped with cheese, grilled onions and fresh lettuce, tomatoes and a nice mayo layering. This comes wtih some really hot and thick french fries and all for $6.00 - that i say is a deal.

The burger gets its great taste because of the freshness of the ingredients -from the nice sesame seed buns, to the freshly ground beef burger patty which is grilled for atleast 3-4 minutes with a hood on it to let the steam grill the meat, it all just adds up.

Ok. But this was not the only thing before i give my verdict. So i returned for a second time and tried the veggie burger. The veggie burger too was as thick, fresh and delicious as the beef one. And finally i tried the chicken cheese burger tonite. I must say the chicken patty was made of such nicely grounded chicken that I couldnt stop wanting to DIG my teeth into it more and more.

WIMPYS, owned by a mexican guy SURELY ROCKS!! and get my thumbs up.

Today i took my VEGGIE only buddy for a treat at WIMPYS. And he came back ALL smiling, content and happy. As they say in my native language, life is Khao, Khujao aur Batti Bujhao (cant be translated very well but roughly means Eat, Scratch and Switch off the Lights. Bon appetite!

That can't be the same as the British Wimpys. Suckiest burger in the world. So flaccid that most of the branches here have closed down - I can't even remember the last time I saw one ...

I have never had a Wimpy's thank goodness! They sound icky. Did have fish and chips, but usually opt for the Indian spots. As a student in London I had a favourite Curry Take Away near Victoria station. Cheap good eats. I do love a good burger-th ones Steve makes! A combination of beef and lamb is my favourite.
