Banana we all know is one of the most popular fruits throughout the world. It is relished by people of all age groups and it tastes awesome in any recipe; banana fruit vegetable, ice cream or a shake.

Well the banana we all know and like are actually Cavendish bananas. Long, yellow and good tasting, Cavendish bananas make their place in the fruits baskets at home and in the supermarkets all over the year.

A banana disease is said to have hit these Cavendish bananas and can lead to its extinction. Earlier also, before 1960, a variety of banana called "Gros Michel" has become extinct due to a banana disease. Now the scientists are worried that the world might even lose these Cavendish bananas because of the widespread banana disease.

Tropical Race Four, a soil-borne fungus is actually the major reason of this breaking news and the cause of banana disease.

 Cavendish bananas are rich source of Vitamins B₆ and C, and also contain high levels of minerals like potassium, magnesium, and fiber. Not only this, these bananas are cheap and tasty.

The fungus which has made the breaking news has already ruined the plantations of Cavendish bananas in Taiwan, Indonesia, Philippines and China. The fungus is now being seen in Central America. Will bananas soon be extinct? Who knows…
