Are You On A Party Binge Out Of Social Obligation?
Are you on a party binge out of social obligation these holidays? Right from Halloween to Christmas you might have had to go on a party binge several times. At least for Thanksgiving, your friends and family might have coaxed you into overeating.
Even otherwise, you yourself might have indulged in excessive eating to avoid peer pressure thinking that you’ll be the odd one out if you don’t eat a thing or two from the party menu when everyone else is eating. This happens with me pretty often, not only during festivals but during any party in general. Recently, I attended a birthday party hosted by a friend and had to eat a huge chunk of chocolate cake specially prepared by her. I had no option, but to eat it because she’d be hurt otherwise. You might have been in the same situation yourself. So, how are you going to avoid party binging?
Here are great tips from Kevin on Healthy Mind Fit Body on how to tactfully avoid a party binge when under social obligation:
• Don’t make your intentions of dieting obvious. Just fill your plate with everything available. But you’ve got to be clever when you do that. Fill it up more with salads than the heavily creamed turkey. Don’t avoid the turkey completely because that will draw attention.
• Take small servings of desserts. Instead of two full scoops of ice cream, go for just one.
• The key to avoid eating excessively is to eat slowly. You’ll consume lesser quantity in more time.
So, try these tricks if you are compelled to go on a party binge next. Christmas, is just a few days away. I hope these strategies will help you in fighting peer pressure while eating at parties. Image Credit :Cleavers
