Skin Friendly Alcohols

  • Cetyl alcohol is an extract from coconut oil. It has wonderful moisturizing power. The effect of cetyl alcohol is that gentle it is often used in baby products. It has a tendency of foaming so this alcohol is used in dry skin care products and cleansers. Coomercially this organic alcohol is used in several hand creams, lipsticks, mascara, shampoos, deodorants, foundation, nail polish removers, etc.
  • Cetearyl alcohol is derived from oils and fats and it imparts the effect of emulsifying wax. This organic alcohol is extensively used in cleansers, permanent hair color, face creams, eye make-up, and sun block creams.
  • Lanolin alcohol is extracted from sebaceous glands of sheep. Although lanolin is known for skin sensitivity in some users because of its animal source, it is an excellent quality emollient and often used in moisturizers, sunscreen, shaving creams, and cosmetics.

Recommendations

  • Whenever you will purchase a product with organic alcohol base, always look for the ingredient list. If you find any of these organic alcohols [mentioned above] in the product you are purchasing, you are probably at safe side of skin care.
     
  • You should use cosmetics with minor concentrations of low-molecular weight alcohols because these products are safe for skin.
  • Consumed alcohol reacts adverse with vitamin A; you should stop alcohol consumption you are on Vitamin A medication or you are using cosmetics with vitamin A.

  • You may consume restricted quantity of red wine because it has resveratol, which is a super antioxidant with potential to reduce signs of aging.
  • Whiskey, Brandy, Scotch and Cognac contents are loaded with plenty of antioxidants. Therefore, you may sometimes indulge in restricted and occasional consumption of these alcohols, it will not kill your skin glow.
