A fascinating bouquet of information on Perfumes

A fragrance that a woman wears says a lot about her personality and style. It is one particular cosmetic ingredient none can see, but in some ways becomes more important as it announces our individuality to the other person even before they see us, lingers for a while after we have left and may sometimes become our signature.

All over the world, women pay astronomical amounts for bespoke designer perfumes. These might be available in specially designed bottles that are expensive because of styling or the brand name they carry like "Chanel No. 5".

With varying temperatures of different seasons like in India, it is natural that some fragrances become typical of the season. A floral or citrus perfume is best suited for a summer afternoon.Spicier ones are suitable for the winter or more festive evenings.

Perfumes should not be kept under light, air or any other organic matter.

keeping the perfumes in the refrigerator is not recommended, they must be kept in a cool, dark place.

How to apply and wear perfumes? Few tips given!

  • No perfume will last more than a few hours and so will have to be topped up during the day if you want to maintain the effect.
  • Layering is the best way to make your scent last longer.  Use something like shower gel and  then  body lotion in the same range, finishing with a light spray of perfume, highlighting the pulse points like wrists, temples.
  • For a more subtle effect, spray your perfume just in front of you and immediately walk through the mist so that it is dispersed all over you.
  • Spray from a distance of 12-15 inches. Be very careful with this: perfume will stain silk and many synthetic fabrics. This is something I personally recommend.
  • Don’t ladle on perfume. You want to drift by, leaving a delicate and enticing trail of loveliness behind you, not move along,  leaving in your wake a trail of poor asthmatics gasping for air and the noses of others kicking and screaming for mercy.

Great tips Aparna! I am so obsessed with scents and perfumes and am a lil too choosy in buying my brand and flavor. I used to like some of those celebrity picks, especially J.Lo endorsed ones. What is your favorite fragrance?
