5 Weirdest Mediterranean Snacks
The splendid burst of flavors and colors and the amazing array of tasty Mediterranean snacks owes much to the contributions from various countries – Spain, Israel, Greece, Egypt – to name a few. While goodies such as falafel, assorted kebabs, and baklava are scrumptious delights, this cuisine also has quite a lot of weird foods. And, here are 5 of them, which I feel, should be a apart of this weird food series.

Would you like to eat snails? Then, this is for you. Hailing from the French cuisine, these are quite popular in French restaurants as appetizers. Snails are cooked in wine, chicken stock, or garlic butter after their shells are removed. The French love to munch them!

Called as Orxata de Xufa, this is one of the weirdest Spanish snacks. Quite popular as a natural refreshment to beat the scorching summer, these are prepared using tiger nuts, sugar, and water. This is also advised as a drink for those showcase lactose intolerance. So, do try it, if you are allergic to milk!
3. Argaliot

I have taken this from Israel kitchen. This has become a part of this list because of its sturdy nature – you will really need some iron teeth to bite them. Israelites love these cookies available in chocolate, apricot, as well as strawberry flavors. Once you bite, they turn into sticky mass and then, you will have to wait for a while to finish them. So, make sure that you try them when you have sufficient leisure time.
4. Oellebroed

This Danish porridge like thick soup is a Danish favorite. This is prepared from the stale Danish rye bread by soaking it in water and then boiling in beer along with sugar. A much sought after food item in Denmark, this is available hot along with whipped cream.
5. Retsina
Retsina is a Greek white wine infused with pine resin. The drink gets its flavor from the way the wine vessels are sealed using Aleppo Pine resin.
Weird is a word which is comparative. While these Mediterranean snacks sound strange to my taste buds, but they need not be the same for you. Try them yourself, and share your opinion with me!
