Twiglets

England is known for its traditional cuisine, afternoon tea, and other interesting dishes. England cuisine consists of high quality food products.  But there is also another side to the cuisine, a weirder side. Let me share with you some of the weird snacks that the Brits love to eat.

 

 

 

 

1. Twiglets 

Move away Lays and Pringles. Here comes Twiglets. They are wheat crisp wafers, shaped like small twiglets. Very famous throughout United Kingdom.

 

2. Marmite

Marmite

It is a food spread. Packaged in a jar. Sold since 1920s. The ingredients are said to be sticky, dark brown paste, very salty and sour.

 

3. Digestive Biscuit

Digestive Biscuits

Originated in the United Kingdom. It is a semi sweet biscuit. Now famous all over the World. People usually include digestive biscuits as a part of their diet regime, because it is not heavy and doesn’t have too many calories

 

4. Pork Pie

Pork pie

A traditional meat pie. It consists of chopped pork and pork jelly sealed in a hot water crust pastry.

 

5. Ox tongue

Ox tongue

If you thought eating a beef tongue was weird, try out this dish. Well the Ox tongue is prepared by frying and serving in a burger roll. Very tasty.

 

6. Love in Disguise 

Love in Disguise

A very catchy name for a dish. I would love to eat this particular dish only because of its name. This is what even you would be thinking, but wait a minute let me tell you what this dish really consists of. It is a calf’s heart baked in the oven and served with bacon and gravy. Definitely a dish disguised with a catchy name.

 

7. Clapshot

Clapshot

It is served with haggis, oatcakes, sausages or cold meat. It is prepared by mashing potatoes and swede turnips along with chives, butter, salt and pepper. This dish is originated  in Orkney.

 

8. Faggots

Faggots

A very offensive name for a dish.  It consists of offal of pork. Pork livers, heart, intestines are minced together. Mixture is shaped into balls and fried and served with peas and stew.

 

9. Spotted dick 

Spotted dick

Imagine going in a restaurant and ordering for this particular dish. Sounds weird and funny right? Well not in Britain, this dish is a suet pudding and consists of dried fruit.

 

10. Pig’s trotters

Pig's trotters

It is prepared by cooking pig feet. Served as a snack or in stew. This dish is very popular.
