BengaliFoodie
Hi All!
I am primarily a homemaker with two kids, reaching their teens. I am a foodie, but more than that I love to cook for my family and for my guests. Cooking has been one of my favorite activities from my earlier days.
Being a Bengali, I have been habituated with a variety of special Bengali preparations. Fish is one of the major ingredient of Bengali cuisine and there are perhaps thousands ways by which you can cook fish. Fish and rice - is the most authentic Bengali meal for almost every household. Other than fish, mutton and poultry - are also quite favorite items to serve in special events.
Apart from the non-vegetarian section, there are several vegetarian dishes having typical Bengali touch of cooking. Some of the vegetarian items are also considered as non-veg like onions, garlic, red lentils etc. All these vegetarian preparations are generally made as offerings during any type of Puja or prayer. Even a decade ago, the Bengali widows were supposed to eat only vegetarian, as a social custom.
The Bengali cuisine is divided into two major style of cooking - Ghoti and Bangal. Ghoti style of cooking is followed by the original residents of West Bengal, whereas Bangal style of cooking has been influenced by the residents of Bangladesh. Both have its own delicate touch, but comparison of these two cooking styles has been a favorite passtime for every Bengali individual.
Since my in-laws are originally from Bangladesh, I got a special opportunity to learn both of these styles. It is very difficult to collect all Bengali recipes, as there are so many of them. However, I will try my best to make an assortment of different types of Bengali recipes at this place.
Enjoy your journey through this traditional and authentic Bengali cuisine!
