Asha khatau

I'm in the field of gourmet Vegetarian cooking. After 25 years of experience in providing meals for my family and friends, I was persuaded to start my own cooking classes about 10 years ago. The classes run under the name of EPICURE. They feature regional cuisines from all over the world. I've travelled extensively, in India and abroad. During the travels, I make it a point to visit local bazaars and restaurants to get authentic tastes and ingredients. Success of cooking classes inspired me to write cookbooks. My first book, "Best of Epicure’s Vegetarian Cuisines of the World" won the "Best Vegetarian Book in the World" award (2002) at Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, which are known to be the Oscars in the cookbooks category. I have wriiten 4 more books so far, "Vegetarian Chinese", "Vegetarian Italian", "Vegetarian cuisines of India" and "Delectable desserts of the world", which won an honorable mention at World Media awards 2006 in the "Best Foreign Cook Book in the World" category. I have given cooking classes in India and abroad (U.S.A., Antwerp, Dubai, Oman...). I also give live cooking demonstration to ladies clubs and associations. I do voluntary work at SPJ Sadhana School in Mumbai, which provides education to mentally challenged children. My latest activity includes consultancy to eminent caterers in Mumbai, giving them my best recipes and training their people to a vast "International cuisines” menu which I design specially for their functions. I am into fitness and love to work out regularly. Besides this I'm a busy housewife and mother to three children. I come from a joint Hindu family with traditional values. I have done B.A. with Psychology and also studied Sanskrit upto higher level.
